Nick Corieri with Robert Half is looking for a motivated Tax Staff Accountant to join a small public accounting team in Syracuse, New York. This position offers the opportunity to work with both individual and business clients across tax, accounting, and advisory assignments in a collaborative and focused setting. The role is best suited for someone who is organized, client-focused, and interested in building broad experience in public accounting while continuing to grow in their career.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare a range of tax filings for individuals, corporations, partnerships, S corporations, fiduciaries, and nonprofit organizations while supporting planning and compliance efforts.

• Maintain accurate client financial records by handling bookkeeping tasks, reconciling accounts, and posting journal entries.

• Assist with the creation of financial statements and related supporting schedules for client engagements.

• Contribute to audit, review, and compilation work by organizing workpapers, performing testing procedures, and documenting results.

• Communicate with clients to collect needed documentation, address questions, and provide responsive, high-quality service.

• Help resolve tax and accounting matters, including drafting responses to notices and supporting issue resolution with taxing authorities.

• Monitor changes in tax regulations, accounting guidance, and industry standards to support quality client service.

• Manage multiple assignments and deadlines efficiently, especially during peak filing periods.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in public accounting is preferred.
• Hands-on experience preparing individual and/or business tax returns is preferred.
• Working knowledge of bookkeeping processes, accounting fundamentals, and financial statement preparation.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks and tax software such as AccuTax or CCH Sales Tax.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to stay organized across competing priorities.
• CPA license or progress toward CPA certification is a plus.
